One of the most respected construction insurance underwriters in the industry, Joan Miles brings to her role as president of Astrus a nearly 30-year track record in building and growing successful underwriting ventures. Miles joined Astrus from Old Republic Construction Program, where she was president and CEO. She came to Old Republic in 2006, after the company acquired a construction insurance startup she launched. At the time it was acquired by Old Republic, the ‘startup’ had grown to a premium of $250 million in ten years under her management. After it was acquired by Old Republic, she was able to expand operations to more than 500 clients and a premium of $400m by 2014. Prior to Old Republic, during her tenure as vice president and assistant profit center manager for AIG’s Construction Risk Management Division, Ms. Miles quadrupled the division’s premiums to $400m in four years. Before that, she held several senior positions in which she was responsible for the underwriting of large construction and casualty accounts for companies including Gow & Hanna and Willis, Inc.
